For the first time, Fudan University included a psychological test in its enrollment process, the school said on Wednesday.

The test will be applied to students trying to enter the school without taking the National College Entrance Examination because of their outstanding performance in high school.

A university recruitment official was quoted by the Jiefang Daily as saying that the move is aimed at paying more attention to the student's mental health, so as to improve their development in an all-rounded way.

However, the test will not determine the final result of the students' enrollment, the paper said. If a candidate is found to have a mental disorder, for example mild depression, the school will recommend later registration for the student.

School officials told the paper that those who apply for recommended students tests should meet the Education Ministry's requirements. The name list for qualified candidates will be published on the ministry's website. After the first round of selection from the list, successful candidates will later participate in the school's ability level test and the psychological test.

In addition to Fudan University, a number of other higher education institutes, for example Wuhan University and East China Normal University, have already added psychological tests to their recruitment process, the paper said.
