Standardized medical emergency treatment urged

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-04-14 13:32

BEIJING - Medical experts have called for strengthened emergency treatment, aiming to further standardize diagnosis and treatment procedures.

Experts made the call on Sunday at a three-day seminar on emergency medicine that kicked off on Friday. The seminar was attended by more than 3,000 domestic and international experts, scholars and hospital representatives.

Emergency medicine has witnessed rapid development over the past three decades, but irregularities during the treatment process have troubled the public, experts said.

Yu Xuezhong, head of the emergency medicine branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, said both the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency medicine should be improved.

Yu added that precise management and standardized procedures are needed to prevent medical malpractice.

Wang Zhong, vice head of the Beijing Tsinghua Hospital affiliated with Tsinghua University, said more preventive measures should be put in place in order to reduce the risk of infection during emergency treatment.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of emergency medicine to China.
