Seven power companies in East China's Jiangsu province are facing tens of millions of yuan in fines for filing false information or improper supervision of their emission systems.

The province's Environmental Protection Department announced on May 19 that the seven companies filed false statistics on sulfide emissions or failed to monitor the operations of their respective desulfurization facilities.

The companies received hefty fines, the department said. One power company in Wuxi city was fined 17 million yuan ($2.77 million).
