Most satisfied with H7N9 response

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-05-24 18:38

BEIJING - Most Chinese are satisfied with the way the government responded to the recent H7N9 bird flu outbreak, according to survey results released on Friday.

More than 80 percent of those surveyed said the government issued information about the outbreak in a timely manner, as well as believe that the government is capable of containing the virus, according to a survey conducted by the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

The survey, conducted by the commission from April 27 to May 4, indicated that elderly respondents tended to be more satisfied with the government's performance than younger people.

Nearly 3,000 people in the municipalities of Beijing and Shanghai, as well as 1,166 people across the country, were surveyed.

Fifty percent of respondents said they changed their hygiene habits in order to prevent infections.

The virus has killed 36 people on the Chinese mainland thus far, the commission said Monday, adding that there has been no evidence of human-to-human transmission.
