2,000 imported products destroyed by quarantine authorities

Quarantine authorities in Beijing destroyed more than 2,000 items of imported mechanical and electrical products on Thursday after discovering that they failed to meet national standards of product quality.

The imported products, including cellphones, automotive glass and power cords, were destroyed after they were wrongly declared by the consigner or did not have the China Compulsory Certification mark, according to the Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

According to Chinese regulations, the CCC mark is required for both domestically manufactured products and products imported into China.

Qian Hongwei, deputy chief for the Capital Airport Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, said that because many consignors and importers of products are unfamiliar with laws and regulations in China, the majority of the products destroyed did not meet national standards.
