Beijing has a reputation for a thriving live music scene and with a Beijing-based band representing China at the World Final, the whole world will see what the country has to offer.

Rustic impressed the 12-judge panel in the national finals, beating regional winners from Macao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Make some noise!

When their victory was announced, the trio jumped around the stage, and guitarist-singer Li Yan grabbed the microphone to shout: "I was born on a farm. I moved to Beijing and chose rock 'n' roll because I didn't want to be a farmboy all my life."

Founded by Li, or Lucifer, in 2007, Rustic has gone through a number of member changes before arriving at its present lineup of Ricky Sixx on bass and Li Fan on drums.

Each has different musical preferences. Lucifer is fond of 1970s United Kingdom punk rock: Ricky is addicted to '80s metal bands; and Li is crazy about old school punk.

In songs like Modern Love and Wild Side, the three young men, with an average age of 18, sing about girls, adolescent confusion and daydreams about the future.

Having been crowned best band in China 2009, they will battle against 23 bands in the world finals for a prize of $100,000 in London on Dec 13.

Before flying to the UK, the three young men will give a live show this weekend at 2 Kolegas.

Three other indie bands, Me Too, Careless and Old Fashion will help make more noise that night.
