Hainan was widely publicized in 2008 for its achievements in holding to the province's convictions for open, green and hi-tech development that started a new chapter in its development history.

Haikou, capital of the province, is enjoying more rapid development than ever.

Last February, the Haikou City Committee of the Communist Party of China formulated further strategies for economic and social development to establish the city as a new hi-tech industry base, along with a tourism and leisure resort, an agriculture center, a regional transportation hub and a modern service center.
