Obama speech 'fails to impress Mideast nations'

By Cui Haipei and Zhou Wa | China Daily | Updated: 2011-05-21 07:55

BEIJING - US President Barack Obama delivered a speech from Washington on Thursday to Arab nations, but some experts said the address may have more symbolic than practical significance.

During the speech, Obama tried to put American values and human rights at the top of his speech, but without a clear road map for the region, experts say that the president may be too optimistic in hoping for a quick solution to regional unrest.

The recent regional unrest stemmed from a number of causes unrelated to democracy, analysts said.
