Protests erupt over court ruling

Egyptian protesters torched buildings in Cairo and tried unsuccessfully to disrupt shipping on the Suez Canal, as a court ruling on a deadly soccer riot stoked rage in the country. The ruling enraged residents of Port Said by confirming the death sentences on 21 local soccer fans for their role in the riot last year.

Aung San Suu Kyi was selected on Sunday to remain as head of Myanmar's main opposition party, keeping her leadership post even as the party undergoes a makeover to adjust to the country's new democratic framework.
