As living standards rise, the Chinese are paying more and more attention to their health, which has created great demand for fitness businesses, such as gyms and sports centers.

"The market is very competitive, and there are new health clubs and activity centers opening up practically every day," says Tommy Kennington, director of sports and recreation at Kerry Sports, a large hotel-based fitness complex in Beijing.

The sports center recently reopened its doors after seven months of renovation.
