China is seriously concerned about any unilateral military action against Syria, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday, amid the high possibility of military intervention from the United States.

Hong Lei told reporters at a regular news briefing, "China is firmly opposed to the use of chemical weapons by any party in Syria and expresses serious concern about preparations by relevant countries for unilateral military action." US President Barack Obama said on Saturday he has decided to launch a limited military strike against Syria, but will seek approval from Congress, while US Secretary of State John Kerry said his country has received new physical evidence to prove the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
