Most mobile readers read for free

The average daily reading time on mobile phones was 33.82 minutes, a drastic increase of 12.12 minutes compared with 2013. However, 66.7 percent of mobile users only read free content while 33.3 percent are prepared to pay.

The report shows the yearly average cost of mobile reading in 2014 to be 16.47 yuan ($2.6533), lower than 21.43 yuan ($3.4524), the average cost in of 2013.

The reading rate of digital publications was 58.1 percent last year, 8 percentage points higher than a year earlier. 44.3 percent of readers are prepared to pay while the rate of 2013 was 38.7 percent. On average, the acceptable cost of a single digital book is 1.58 yuan ($0.25), a slight increase on 2013.
