Green Dream Park springs up near Bird's Nest

A "green" theme park will spring up next month in Beijing, featuring the world's largest Transformers-style creation of abandoned vehicles and recycled clothing, furniture and waste paper.

Located northeast of Bird's Nest, the environment-themed park will cover 20,000 square meters and feature five indoor halls. Visitors will not only see large exhibits constructed of waste and recycled materials, but also experience sustainable lifestyles through games and various do-it-yourself activities.

Green Dream Park aims to become a new hangout for families and young people where they can explore how to make their lives greener in interesting ways, according to Tina Zheng, general manager of the project.

"We've seen the movie Farewell Atlantis and we all know that the earth is in great danger. But I think this is too heavy. So we try to explore this issue in a fun and organic way. We want to tell people that this is how simple your life can be, protecting the earth can be."

Zheng expects Green Dream Park, set to be open July 16 to Oct 10, to draw a bigger crowd than last winter's Chocolate Wonderland, which was organized by the same company.
