Say "no" to bad habits
( 2003-05-20 10:59) (pladaily)

It is quite common that people fall prey to certain bad habits in their daily lives, said the PLA Daily today, citing the following story.

Right after the World War II, General Eisenhower was to take up the post of the president of the University of Colombia, the vice-president of the university arranged 63 department heads to report to him. Eisenhower canceled the meeting and argued that he did not need to consult so many people to learn about the university's situation. "When I was leading the allied forces, I only dealt with three generals directly commanding the troops" he said.

There is an old Chinese saying: If the senior officials have a habit, their subordinates are sure to like it even more. If the senior officials say "no" to some bad habits first, their subordinates may follow suit. Thus, it will be easier to uproot bad habit , such as formalism.

Nowadays, working groups are often sent to the grass-roots units to inspect work. The important thing is not how grand and spectacular these inspection work may look, but how many practical problems they can resolve, and how much information they can provide for the higher level to make decision.

If a proper system can be established to ensure the implementation of this concept, then the bad habit can be easily uprooted.
