Bangladeshi business circles hope to expand relations with China
( 2003-07-06 11:01) (Xinhua)

The first official general meeting of Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) was held in Dhaka Saturday with strong desire to take Sino-Bangladesh relations to a newer height.

In a message to the meeting, Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui expressed the hope that the chamber will make positive contribution to promoting trade and commerce between Bangladesh and China.

In the official election conducted here Saturday by BCCCI Election Board, F.R. Siddique and Ahammadi Abbas Kapakdia were elected as president and secretary general of BCCCI for the period of 2003-2005.

Akhtar Hamid Siddique, member of parliament Harunur Rashid and Chairman of APEX Weaving and Dyeing Mills Ltd. Hasinur Rahman were elected as the chief advisor, senior advisor and advisor, respectively.

A 25-member executive committee and a 15-member advisory council were also elected unanimously.

Addressing the meeting, newly elected President of BCCCI F.R. Siddique stressed that whatever international and internal situations face Bangladesh, "due to geo-political and geo- strategical reasons, Sino-Bangladesh trade, investment and economic relations must be further expanded for the benefit of the two peoples as well as the great cause of peace and development of the whole South Asian region."

BCCCI was founded on March 8, 2002 and recognized by the Chinese authorities.
