Virtual training: a part of military change
( 2003-08-25 11:31) (PLA Daily)

The extensive application of virtual reality technology has provided scientific methods for the research on future wars and army training. Virtual training turns to be the most economical means to improve the combat effectiveness, while it is also close to actual combat. Now virtual training has been a part of the military change.

The virtual reality technology is better than other simulation technologies. It is impossible for the army to have an environment of actual combat during peace times. Limited by exercise scale and expensive costs, it restricts the effectiveness of military training. A virtual reality technology has emerged in recent years along with the fast development of the photoelectric technology, sensing technology and computer network.

The virtual reality is a technology of computer 3D space environment reappearing combining high-tech measures. It is a combination of multi-technologies. The virtual reality technology realizes "letting the computer suit to the people."

The virtual reality technology can conveniently meet the requirements of the military training and best results can be gained. Through virtual reality technology, large-scale battle fronts and armies can be virtualized and the potential force of arms equipment can be transformed to actual combat effectiveness. Many comprehensive battle actions can be virtualized and the commanding ability can be improved in short time.

The virtual training system formed by virtual reality technology makes the trainees feel the existence of the man-made environment, and they can research the battle targets. Plains, bushes, polar regions and deserts, even nuclear and biochemical dispositions can be virtualized.
