Story of 'Nuan'

The story opens with Lin Jinghe returning to his home in a remote village,
which he left 10 years earlier.
Lin accidentally runs into his first lover Nuan, whom he has never forgotten,
but dares not meet with again.
The story then flashes back to Lin and Nuan's youth. Nuan was the most
attractive girl in the village and had many pursuers, one of whom was Lin. All
the villagers believed Nuan would have a bright future and finally bid farewell
to the village and settle in a city to begin her new life.
Nuan's life did see a major turning point - but not the way the villagers
anticipated. An accident occurred when Nuan and Lin were playing on a swing, and
Nuan broke her legs.
Lin was consumed by guilt, and promised he would come back to Nuan, who
became disabled.
Because of a misunderstanding, Lin never kept his promise, and the
heartbroken Nuan married a mute and gave birth to a daughter.
Just when all their lives have apparently settled down, Lin's return to the
village throws everything into disarray.
