Chinese people of all ages are making donations. A US$3 million private aid by the Chinese people is ready for victims. The Red Cross Society of China had received more than 25 million yuan (US$3 million) in donations from across the nation up to today.

The Red Cross opened a 24-hour donation hotline on January 1, and has so far received thousands of calls daily.

Donors have been flocking to the China Charity Federation, which is authorized by the Chinese Government to accept money. The federation has seen an increase in donations since the weekend from people of all walks of life.

The donors include a five-month-old baby named Zhang Kexin whose mother donated 500 yuan (US$60) on behalf of her.

The Red Cross yesterday launched a charity donation and picture exhibition. Pan Shiyi and Zhang Xin, both CEOs of SOHO China Ltd, donated 1 million yuan (US$120,000).

In Shanghai, nearly 3 million yuan (US$362,700) was collected by about 5 pm yesterday, with more than 90 per cent of it from individuals, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China said, in news release.

Artists across the Chinese mainland are busy preparing major charity events to raise money for those who lost loved ones in the disaster. More than 20 of Beijing's newspapers, including China Daily, have signed an agreement to organize another charity show, "Love from China", at the Capital Gymnasium.

All the people involved showed their eagerness to give help to the victims and they believe that it is everyone's duty to show charity and offer a hand to those who need help. They hope that people in the disaster hit areas will see that the Chinese people are supporting them. People's care and charity can overcome natural disasters.

It is a show for tsunami victims and a show for the people's common futures. In addition to the gala concerts many ensembles have decided to donate some of the box-office incomes from their latest shows.
