A suspect in the July bombing attempts on London's transit system was extradited Thursday from Rome to Britain, where he faces arrest, police said.

Hamdi Issac, the suspect in the failed July 21 London bombings, escorted by Italian penitentiary police, arrives at Cimapino airport in Rome , Thursday Sept. 22, 2005. Issac, a British citizen also known as Osman Hussain, was arrested in Rome and has been extradited to Britain Thursday, Italian news reports said. [AP]
Hussain Osman, known in Italy as Hamdi Issac, returned to Britain at Northolt air base on a flight from Rome's Ciampino airport.

Metropolitan Police said Osman would be arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and offenses under the Explosive Substances Act. He faces an initial court appearance Friday at the Belmarsh high-security prison in London, police said.

Issac fought extradition, but Italy's highest court on Sept. 13 upheld a lower court's decision to extradite him to Britain.

Osman was returned under a new fast-track system of European arrest warrants. Italy signed up to that system July 28, a day before Osman's arrest, Britain's Home Office said.

Osman was detained in the Italian capital on an international arrest warrant. British authorities want to prosecute him for his alleged role in the July 21 attempted bombing at the Shepherd's Bush subway station.

No one was killed in the four, near-simultaneous attacks that day, two weeks after suicide bombings on London's transport system killed 56 people, including the four bombers.

Three other men have been charged with the July 21 attacks at three subway stations and a double-decker bus. They are Ibrahim Muktar Said, 27; Ramzi Mohamed, 23; and Yassin Omar, 24, all of London.
