文中的detonate和explode的意思相似，表示“爆炸”，如，The dynamite detonated.（炸藥爆炸了。）作及物動詞用時，detonate可指“引爆”，用英文可解釋為to cause to explode，比如，to detonate an atomic device（引爆一個原子裝置）。Detonate的名詞形式是detonation。
