Beyonce Knowles was so depressed when her former Destiny's Child bandmates Letoya Luckett and Lativia Roberson quit the group, she spent days in her bedroom refusing to eat.

The Crazy In Love singer admits the 2000 walk-out came at a very "lonely" time in her life when a longstanding boyfriend also turned his back on her - and she found herself at her lowest.

She struggled to speak about her depression because Destiny's Child had just won their first Grammy Award and she feared no one would take her seriously.

She tells America's Parade magazine the break-up of her romance and her band left her questioning who she was and who her friends were - and she felt "attacked" as the media began to turn on her.

It was her mother Tina who helped her get through the blues. She told her, "Why do you think a person wouldn't love you? Don't you know how smart and sweet and beautiful you are?"
