London: Britney Spears may not be much of a fashion icon these days, but she has still managed to find a place on the list for the 'Most Elegant Woman of 2006'.
Readers of Hello magazine cast their votes in an online poll to name Denmark's Australian-born Crown Princess Mary as the 'Most Elegant Woman' of the year for her sense of style and self-assuredness.
However, following closely on Mary's heels was the former princess of pop Britney Spears, who though finding herself on the wrong side of fashion critics for the past few months, earned plaudits for her stylish appearance at the 2006 American Music Awards, when she took to the stage to present one of the trophies in a figure-hugging caramel-coloured dress.
Third spot on the list went to Australian beauty Cate Blanchett, who won approval for her sophisticated sense of style, reports Hello magazine.
The top five was rounded of by singer Natalie Imbruglia and Queen Rania of Jordan, who came in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The list for the top ten 'Most Elegant Women of 2006', as per Hello is:
