Updated: 2007-06-14 08:43

An exhibition featuring more than 120 artworks including sculptures and paintings by 80 modern Korean artists opens in the Korean Cultural Service centre in Beijing on Monday.

The 2007 Gwangwhamoon International Art Festival also showcases works of 40 artists from 16 countries including US, Canada, Iran and Israel.

It is an annual event initiated by South Korean government since 2005 to introduce Korean art to the outside world.

South Korean ambassador to China, Kim Ha Joong, attended the opening ceremony and said the exhibition gives an opportunity for Chinese to get close to South Korean artists and their pieces.

The event is among the cultural activities planned for the Sino-Korean Exchange Year.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and South Korea.

The exhibition runs until June 16.
