辦公室口語(yǔ)謬誤:freshen up [ 2006-04-13 13:38 ]
下午會(huì)議室里的談話正好告一段落,也到了休息時(shí)間。Tim請(qǐng)張先生享用咖啡及茶點(diǎn)。
Tim: They just brought in refreshments. Please help yourself.
茶點(diǎn)已經(jīng)準(zhǔn)備好了,請(qǐng)用。
Mr.Zhang: Thank you. 謝謝。
可是張先生想在吃茶點(diǎn)前先去廁所。這時(shí)候Tim說到:
Tim: Would you like to freshen up?
聽到這話,張先生以為Tim再次請(qǐng)他去享用refreshments(茶點(diǎn)):
Mr.Zhang: Thank you, but before that I'd like to use the restroom.
謝謝,但是我想先去趟洗手間。
Tim: Of course. This way. 哦,這邊請(qǐng)。
Tim露出詫異的神色一邊說著,一邊告訴張先生廁所的位置。
Tim為什么會(huì)詫異呢?因?yàn)閺埾壬裦reshen up的含義給搞錯(cuò)了!
原來(lái),"Would you like to freshen up?"、"Would you like to wash your hands?"與
"Would you like to use the restroom?" 是同樣的意思,都是委婉地表示“你想不想上廁所?”之意。
大家可要小心使用,不要弄錯(cuò)哦!
