A Resource-conserving, Environment-friendly Society
A strategic target for China's industrial and social progress in the medium and long-term.
First raised by President Hu Jintao in March 2005, it stresses improving the efficiency of resource utilization, reducing polluting emissions, and controlling the negative influences on the environment caused by economic and social development. During the fifth plenary session of the 16th central committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October 2005 the target was formally acknowledged as one of the country's goals. And Hu reiterated that the efforts toward this target should involve all organizations and families in his report to the CPC's 17th National Congress.
