最近，微博上有人撰文分析啟東排海項(xiàng)目遭抗議是因?yàn)椤班彵苄?yīng)”，也就是英語中的not in my backyard（NIMBY）。今天，咱們就來說說這個表達(dá)。

NIMBY or Nimby is an acronym for the phrase "not in my backyard". The term is used pejoratively to describe opposition by residents to a proposal for a new development close to them, developments that are generally needed in the society. Opposing residents themselves are sometimes called Nimbies.

NIMBY或Nimby是英文短語not in my backyard（別在我家后院）的詞首字母縮寫，這個表達(dá)多以貶義的意味指那些因?yàn)槟硞€社會建設(shè)項(xiàng)目要修在自家附近而對此表示反對的公眾意見，即“鄰避效應(yīng)”。這些表示反對的居民有時被稱作Nimbies。

Projects likely to be opposed include but are not limited to chemical plants, industrial parks, military bases, desalination plants, landfills, incinerators, power plants, prisons, nuclear waste dumps, sports stadiums, etc.

有可能遭遇鄰避效應(yīng)的項(xiàng)目包括但不限于：化工廠、工業(yè)園、軍事基地、海水淡化處理廠、垃圾填埋場、垃圾焚燒廠、發(fā)電站、監(jiān)獄、核廢料掩埋場、體育場，等等。

NIMBY is also used more generally to describe people who advocate some proposal (for example, austerity measures including budget cuts, tax increases, downsizing), but oppose implementing it in a way that would require sacrifice on their part.

NIMBY也用來指那些發(fā)出某項(xiàng)倡議（例如削減預(yù)算、增稅或減員），但如果該倡議危及自身利益又會反對其實(shí)施的人們。
