Large Medium SmallThe exhibition Face, curated by Guo Xiaoli, showcases portrait paintings from 75 contemporary Chinese artists.
Portraits were vivid and realistic in China until the 1980s. Changes happened in the 1990s, when Zhang Xiaogang, Liu Xiaodong and Fang Lijun developed exaggerated, alienated and allegorical portraits. Today, the country's portrait painting has evolved to show more complex of expression. The exhibition offers a systematic study of the genre in China.
