Confucians dressed to impress in China

By Zhang Zixuan | China Daily | Updated: 2012-08-17 11:43

Clothing reflects a country's politics, economy and culture. The traditional Chinese costume is the presentation of Confucian etiquette. The Confucius Family Mansion has 8,000 precious garments from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

Some 100 of the costumes are now housed in Shandong Museum for an ongoing exhibition. They include clothes worn during various occasions, such as daily life, work and weddings. Assorted Ming and Qing hats, fans and censers are exhibited as well.

The museum has also organized activities like cosplay and lectures to let the audiences interact and have a better understand of the dazzling traditional costumes.

9 am-5 pm, daily except Monday, until Sept 9. Hall 12, Shandong Museum, 11899 Jingshi Lu, Jinan, Shandong province. 0531-8505-8201.
