Qimen is rich in porcelain clay, but it was after the establishment of the People's Republic of China that Qimen began to develop its chinaware industry. After decades of endeavors, Qimen has a dozen porcelain factories and is able to produce chinaware for daily use, art appreciation and travel. Qimen earthwares feature many different patterns that demonstrate the high quality of Qimen porcelain clay, while also representing the fine techniques of its craftsmen.
Eggshell Porcelain is the most expensive form of Qimen earthwares. Qimen Eggshell Porcelain is said to embody four unique characteristics: white as jade, clear as mirror, thin as paper and as fine-sounding as a chime. The mountains and rivers in the back can be clearly seen when this porcelain is held to the light.
