Fujian province's marine economy mainly involves the primary and tertiary sectors of fishery, transport, tourism, ship building and marine engineering industries.

The marine GDP rose by 20 percent in 2011 to 0.4 trillion yuan ($65.3 billion), accounting for 25.4 percent of Fujian's GDP. The secondary sector contributed 40.2 percent of the marine GDP in 2006 – and 44.3 percent in 2011. The provincial government has set an ambitious target for its marine economy, and the marine GDP is projected to reach 0.7 trillion yuan (114 billion yuan) by 2015, with the secondary sector contributing more than 44.5 percent.
