Several village cadres were punished in Changle county in East China’s Fujian province for attending a 70-year-old man’s extravagant and wasteful birthday party.

According to local news, a total of over 3 million yuan ($496,000) was distributed, with each guest receiving 3,245 yuan, at the old man’s birthday party held on Nov 28.

The old man, surnamed Ke, has three children, who run very good businesses. They thought it would be filial to hold such an extravagant birthday for their father.

The extravagance, however, is against the Party’s anti-graft rules and has lead to the penalties.
