Academician gives report on disaster prevention and mitigation

Liu Jiaqi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, was invited to present a science report on natural disaster and human survival for Party and government leaders of the city of Ruzhou, Central China’s Henan province, on May 6.

As the theme describes, the report aims to popularize knowledge on how to prevent and mitigate disasters in a scientific way and further improve corresponding cadre disposal capabilities during natural disasters.

Academician Liu made a detailed presentation and analysis of natural disasters in recent years in regards to their types, causes, characteristics and aftermath, as well as the relatively frequent disasters in Central China and their countermeasures.

The attendees gained an overall understanding of natural disasters, which is expected to be helpful in avoiding or reducing losses.

Liu Jiaqi is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a well-known geologist in China. He has long been engaging in geology and environmental studies. He has conducted extensive and in-depth scientific investigations in China, Antarctica, the Arctic, the East African Rift Valley and Siberia.

He has won many honors at national levels for his outstanding contributions to natural science.
