The works exhibition of Tuo Musi, an artist from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was unveiled in the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting in Beijing on May 23.

Jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting and Inner Mongolia Normal University, Tuo's exhibit was also a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the university's arts discipline.

Tuo Musi, born in Inner Mongolia's Tumd Left Banner in 1932, is regarded as a master of oil painting. Works of this Mongolian ethnic group's artist feature the distinctive grassland culture. Together with a group of other young artists, he is one of the founders of a grasslands painting school.

Tuo started his career as a teacher at Inner Mongolia Normal University after he graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1963. He became a professor at the normal university in 1983. His newly-established painting academy and studio are pushing the discipline forward.

Tuo is recognized as the equal of Wu Guanzhong, one of the most famous names in Chinese oil painting scene for over a century. Tuo's exhibit in the capital covers 320 of his works from the 1950s to the 1980s, and will be displayed from May 23 to June 7.
