A rare special camel in Inner Mongolia's Gobi Desert, the Red Bactrian Camel, which was declining in numbers because of environmental and human factors, has been recovering in recent year thanks to better protection and the development of a camel industry by the local government.

There were only 4,000 animals in the Gobi, near the Urad Rear Banner, in 2002, but by now, at the most recent count, there were about 50,000 in the banner, now that there is a Red Bactrian Camel service association and local herdsmen have shown more enthusiastic for breeding the camels.
