Fangchuan scenic spot

The Fangchuan scenic spot is 75 kilometers to the south of the city of Huichun, in Jilin's Yanbian autonomous prefecture, near the juncture of China, the DPRK and Russia, covering a 20-sq km area alongside a river. Fangchuan is famous for its unique geology, lakes, forests, rare plants and birds and is a national forest park and a leopard conservation area.

To the east of Fangchuan is the Russian border, less than 2 km from the Sea of Japan and, to the southwest, is the the DPRK’s Tumen River border. A railway that connect Russia and the DPRK there is the only link for trade between Russia and the DPRK. The Sea of Japan is 15 kilometers down the Tumen River, which can serve as part of the maritime Silk Road and the Eurasia Land Bridge connecting China, Russia, Japan, the Korean peninsula, and Northeast Asia. There is a boundary tablet from 1886 put there by Wu Tacheng, an envoy of the Qing government and a Tsarist Russian representative just a few kilometers from Fangchuan and 15 km from the Tumen River, where tourists can watch the Sea of Japan and climb up nearby watchtower to take in the scenery of three countries.
