On March 2, 2012, the Dandong municipal government convened at the rural work meeting and decided to allocate ten million yuan ($1.59 million) to vegetable production each year.
Shi Guang, mayor of Dandong, said that great efforts should be made to develop a county economy. The city should also maintain its momentum in vigorously constructing irrigation and water conservancy projects. Shi believes that the governors of any administrative area need to be responsible for the "shopping basket project", and the "food basket project" which maintain building vegetable gardens and properly managing food markets.
The meeting was presided over by Li Shumin, vice-secretary of the Dandong municipal Party committee. At the meeting, policies were worked out and issued to regulate agricultural production. Fifty families that participate in cultivation and breeding, as well as advanced units and individuals, were honored as role models.
