Arabian cultural relic experts study paper restoration in Tianyige

Updated :2015-11-26

The Paper Relic Restoration Center in Tianyige Museum yesterday received a delegation of 20 foreign experts in paper cultural relic restoration. They are students of the first Arabian national paper cultural relic restoration expert class, which is a featured event of the 14th Ningbo "Maritime Silk Road" Cultural Week.

Tianyige Museum is one of the 12 national historic document restoration centers. When asked whether the restoration is completed by hand or by machine, Wang Jinyu, director of the restoration department of the museum, said that all historic documents are restored by hand in the museum as Chinese ancient paper was made of bamboo, which is very thin and fragile.

Meanwhile, the UNESCO will hold an exhibition and announce its achievements of a paper protection project in the museum on December 8. Assigned by the UNESCO, the museum also took charge of editing the Chinese part of a guidebook about historic document restoration. The book is expected to be a scientific standard and practical reference to professionals in the area in East Asia.
