The Key Laboratory of Marine Chemical Theory and Engineering Technology aims to develop useful technology for seawater resources.

It was founded in 1959 as the Department of Marine Chemistry at China Ocean University.

It specializes in marine biogeochemistry, ecological chemistry of marine ecology, marine interface chemistry and marine chemical engineering and technology.
