The organizing committee for the 2017 Taiyuan International Marathon released a statement regarding its intentions to recruit 40 competitors who have medical training on July 27.
The runners, who have to also finish the marathon, will be expected to assist any competitors with health problems during the event, rather than competing for their own benefit. The medically-trained participants will be divided into 12 groups according to ability.
All applicants must have taken part in a marathon and completed the same 42.195-km race within the past two years, as well as hold authorized certificates like Wilderness Advanced First Aid, first-aid certificates issued by city-level emergency medical centers, or the Red Cross. The deadline for registration is Aug 13.
This year's Taiyuan International Marathon will be held on Sept 10.
