The Karamay Amateur Sport School recently held Karamay city's first Campus Teenagers Shooting Championship.
A dozen middle and primary schools and the Karamay Vocational School participated.
The championship had 10 meter air rifle and 10 meter air pistol events. Competitors were divided into five groups. Zhou Qingrui, 11, from Karamay Experiment Elementary School, won the individual championship.
Karamay is strong in shooting. The Karamay team won 13 gold medals at the Xinjiang autonomous region's Sports Games in 2015. The good grades, according to Yan Hui, vice president of Karamay Amateur Sport School, can be attributed to the city team's efforts in cultivating talented shooters among children. The current campus teenagers shooting championship was also held?in part?to select more promising competitors from Karamay, Yan said.
