Over 100 Urumqi university students donated blood for the upcoming national winter games on Dec 2, urumqi.gov.cn reported.

A lecture on blood donation was also held on Dec 2. After the lecture more than 20 liters were donated by the students.

The campus publicity has continued. By Dec 3, 192 students had join in the activity with total blood donation amounting to 42.4 liters.

"I think the activity is very meaningful because it may save the life of others in an emergency," said Yang Yue, a student at Xinjiang Vocational School.

Another Uygur volunteer who has donated blood over 30 times shared his personal experience with the process and encouraged members of the public to become donors.

Bi Xinhong, deputy director of the Urumqi Blood Center, noted that the center provides blood for the winter games and also has a volunteer group to provide assistance.
