Comment on "Kindergarten attacker sentenced to death" (China Daily, May 15)
We have seen outrageous and dastardly attacks in schools and attempted bombings in many places in the US. The authorities here have told us to be on the lookout for people traveling by public transport with large bags or backpacks that they could leave behind, and report them immediately to ensure our safety. We have had many incidents over the past decade in which students have fired indiscriminately on school campuses and killed and injured many people.
The sentence handed down by a Chinese court to the kindergarten attacker, I feel, is very just. But since death caused for any reason is a bitter experience, the court order, despite being just, is still bittersweet.
