"Green finance" was one of the topics discussed at the meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Shanghai recently.

Green finance refers to the concept that the financial sector should regard environmental protection as a basic strategy, take into consideration the potential influence on the environment in investment decision-making and emphasize ecological protection and environmental pollution management, in order to promote social sustainable development.

According to China's Minister of Finance Lou Jiwei, the G20 members realize the significance of green finance and the institutional and market obstacles it faces. The G20 finance ministers and central bank governors have established the G20 Green Finance Research Group to propose suggestions on enhancing the environmental awareness of the financial sector and promoting private capital's green investment based on the experiences of various countries.

The research group will cooperate with other G20 working groups and external sectors, and it is expected to submit a comprehensive report in July.

The move shows the G20's determination to push forward green development. It is conducive to global economic sustainable growth and is in accordance with the interests of all parties.
