The Antonov An-225 takes off at an airport in Budapest, Jan 19, 2008. It is generally acknowledged as the largest airplane in the world with a gross weight of 640 tons and a max airlifted payload of 250 tons. It was designed by the former Soviet Union's Antonov Design Bureau. There are only two Antonov An-225 aircrafts in the world and only one owned by a commercial company in the Ukraine is in operation.
