Being a legal medical expert with the local water police force, Yang is no stranger to dead bodies. Every day he patrols the river in search of dead bodies. The first thing he does when he finds a corpse is to determine the cause of death.

The water police, which consists of 19 members, are also responsible for water rescue efforts in cases of suicide attempts, drownings, vehicle accidents and other water-related emergencies. In 2012 alone, the water police dealt with 718 such cases. [Photo/CFP]
