Sanya is an important port and tourist resort in the southern part of Hainan province. It lies on a peninsula parallel to the coast and linked to the mainland by bridges.

Unlike from Hikou, Sanya has a tropical coastal monsoon climate known as "a big natural hot house." The city’s annual temperature is 25.4C with a high of 35.8 C and a low of 5.1 C.

Sanya is famous for its beautiful beaches, such as Asian Dragon Bay, Dadonghai and Tianyahaijiao. Since the sun shines heavily in Sanya, getting sunburned is very common there.
