The Lantern Festival falls on Feb 6th, the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it has become a festival with great significance.

With the fast approaching of the Lantern Festival, all towns in Suzhou have prepared cultural performances for their local people.

During the period, the civil library will organize a game of lantern riddle on Feb 3rd. The Grand Opera will show an opera performed by the famous actor Wang Rugang. A concert will be also show on Feb 9th.

In Shuangfeng town, a temple fair will be held at the Shuangfeng Pavilion on Jan 31st. Movie shows, chess contest, photography and ball games will be organized in Liuhe town.

Similar events can also be seen in Fuqiao town, Huangjing town and Shaxi town.
