The report reveals that New York, London and Singapore rank top three on the global most competitive city list. Hong Kong and Paris shared the fourth place. In addition to Hong Kong and Chengdu, other listed Chinese cities include Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Dalian. Chengdu ranks ninth among Chinese cities but first in central and western China.

The ranking of global most competitive cities is drawn by comprehensively evaluating eight major indexes concerning all cities. The eight indexes consist of economic competitiveness, human resources, financial industry maturity, institutional efficiency, hardware construction, international attractiveness, social and cultural features, environment and natural disasters.

Chengdu ranks among the most developed in terms of the economic competitiveness and environment and natural disaster indexes, the 12th and 8th among 120 cities in the world. For the environment and natural disaster index, Chengdu ranks highest in Chinese cities, showing that the experts highly confirm the sound geographical location, climate and natural resources of Chengdu.

The 120 major cities chosen by the Economist magazine think tank and Citigroup account for 29 percent of the global aggregate economy, thus most representative. The final result was reached by taking the opinions of 10 experts across the world into consideration. The 10 experts are famous economists, city research experts, multi-national company CEOs, which highly elevate the authority of the report.
