The cargo throughput and container throughput of Tianjin Port in Tianjin municipality reached 500 million tons and 13 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) respectively, on Dec 29, meaning that Tianjin Port has become the first 500-million-ton level port in north China.

Tianjin Port is the largest multi-functional port in northern China. It obtained a throughput of 100 million tons in 2001, 200 million tons million tons in 2004, 300 million tons in 2007, 400 million tons in 2010, and 500 million tons in 2013, thus marking an increase of 100 million tons every three years.

The success of Tianjin Port has enabled the management to make a donation of 500,000 yuan ($82,450) on Dec 29 to the Tianjin Women and Children's Development Fund and Tianjin Support Center, and it also held the "2013 Tianjin Port Community Return Concert" at the Tianjin Cultural Center.
