The 2020 Forum of Major Leaders of the Yangtze River Delta was held in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 6.

The YRD, which encompasses the eastern Chinese provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, as well as the Shanghai Municipality, is one of the country's most dynamic regions in terms of economic development, level of openness, and innovation capabilities.

The huge role of the YRD in overall national development involves expanding the size of the economy, serving as an engine for economic growth, and increasing its presence on the international stage, noted Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

He called for efforts to strengthen innovation and enhance the YRD's ability to pool and allocate global resources so as to strengthen its position in the global industrial value chains. He pledged that Shanghai will play a leading role in the integrated development of the YRD with high standards.
